A Road Well Traveled

It's been a little while since my previous post. In light of the recent financial woes, one would think we are living in an ominous time. Yes, we are struggling but we will eventually see our way through this time. However, today I would like to bring to light, the wonderful world we live in. Recently, my sister relayed a really heart-warming story. While on her way home from work, a vehicle in front of my sister erratically pulled over to the side of a busy road. At first my sister was caught off guard, but then she saw the reason for this drivers erratic behavior. Lying on the side of the road was an elderly gentleman who had slipped and fallen. My sisters first instinct was to pull over and assist as well. But then, she saw 4 other bystanders who came to this mans aide. Stories like this make me realize that we live in a world full of more kindness than evil. Unfortunately, we now live with the threat of terrorism to our homeland. Remember, there are more people in this world with kind hearts willing to help their neighbor, than those that want to destroy us!

My First Blog

Yeah my first blog! The blog world is so new to me. What is a blog? I am still not sure but I have one!! The past few days have been so odd, just a few of the highlights since Wednesday:
  1. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailout
  2. Lehman Brothers Sale
  3. Hurricane Ike
All of this during the 7th anniversary of 9/11. I guess you would say this is a week of reflection for me. Seven years ago, I was on my way to the office and on that day I was running a little late. One stop short of my destination, a woman got on the subway, yelling at the top of her lungs that a plane had hit one of the twin towers and another was approaching. No one on the subway flinched or got overly excited. Was it true, or just a crazy lady on a subway? As I exited the subway station, I looked south on Broadway and saw from my vantage point in midtown bellowing smoke coming from downtown New York. That wasn't the rant of a crazy lady! I slowly entered my office building and got off the elevator for my office on the 32nd floor. There I had a perfect view of the Twin Towers, that at the time looked to be on fire but eventually imploded right before my eyes. That's a vision I will never forget, knowing full well I had friends and colleagues that worked down at what was to be called "Ground Zero". The company I worked for at the time, had close to 3,000 employees, we were one of the lucky ones (if you call it luck!), we only lost 6 employees. I couldn't sleep for weeks, and attended several services during this horrific time. Obviously, it's an experience I will never forget! I felt for these families, I had lost my sister almost one year to the day of 9/11 but I had one advantage they didn't, I got to say goodbye. So as I sit here reflecting seven years later, I wonder how much of a stride we have made since that horrific period of time. We've made advances with technology, look I am a blogger! However, we are in a recession that is getting worse every day and maybe approaching a situation similar to the depression. We at war in Iraq but haven't found the instigator of the 9/11 attacks. Hurricane Ike is causing major havoc (could it be global warming?). I don't have any answers but I'll think about it and hope you do the same.
