My First Blog

Yeah my first blog! The blog world is so new to me. What is a blog? I am still not sure but I have one!! The past few days have been so odd, just a few of the highlights since Wednesday:
  1. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bailout
  2. Lehman Brothers Sale
  3. Hurricane Ike
All of this during the 7th anniversary of 9/11. I guess you would say this is a week of reflection for me. Seven years ago, I was on my way to the office and on that day I was running a little late. One stop short of my destination, a woman got on the subway, yelling at the top of her lungs that a plane had hit one of the twin towers and another was approaching. No one on the subway flinched or got overly excited. Was it true, or just a crazy lady on a subway? As I exited the subway station, I looked south on Broadway and saw from my vantage point in midtown bellowing smoke coming from downtown New York. That wasn't the rant of a crazy lady! I slowly entered my office building and got off the elevator for my office on the 32nd floor. There I had a perfect view of the Twin Towers, that at the time looked to be on fire but eventually imploded right before my eyes. That's a vision I will never forget, knowing full well I had friends and colleagues that worked down at what was to be called "Ground Zero". The company I worked for at the time, had close to 3,000 employees, we were one of the lucky ones (if you call it luck!), we only lost 6 employees. I couldn't sleep for weeks, and attended several services during this horrific time. Obviously, it's an experience I will never forget! I felt for these families, I had lost my sister almost one year to the day of 9/11 but I had one advantage they didn't, I got to say goodbye. So as I sit here reflecting seven years later, I wonder how much of a stride we have made since that horrific period of time. We've made advances with technology, look I am a blogger! However, we are in a recession that is getting worse every day and maybe approaching a situation similar to the depression. We at war in Iraq but haven't found the instigator of the 9/11 attacks. Hurricane Ike is causing major havoc (could it be global warming?). I don't have any answers but I'll think about it and hope you do the same.
